That Crazy Stuff People Believe

Have you heard some of the crazy stuff people believe these days? I mean its nuts. For one, there are those thousands of people that believe that that God wants them to take over the world for him, murdering, robbing and raping anyone who gets in the way. There’s also people that think that God just created the whole universe in 6 days. Yeah, just erase hundreds of years of scientific research for the sake of a “Holy Book” that was written thousands of years ago. If that’s not wild enough, there are people who actually look out on the universe and see nothing but a biological machine completely void of any intrinsic meaning or purpose. Many of these people really believe that love and beauty are not real at all – they are mere evolutionary mirages who’s sole function is to keep us moving. Talk about crazy!

How People Change

The concept of change and progress is one of the most fundamental aspects of what it means to be human. We cannot live life if we have no sense of progress or movement forward. Just as fundamental it is to us personally, it is also key in our relationships. Just as we seek progress in our own lives we seek to spread it into the lives of the people around us. There is very little that is more rewarding and enriching than to be able to live a life that is exerting positive influence and change into the lives that we touch.

3 Powerful Basics

Time changes our view of life. I am really seeing this these last couple of months. One of the things it does is it takes some of the “basic” lessons of life that we think we know and reveals a depth and power to them that we have not seen. I am always thinking about youth life and my own life and the things that God has been teaching me.

Over the last couple of months I am really starting to see the power of the basic foundational parts of the christian walk. When we look at history, those who were used by God in mighty and powerful ways didn’t stand out because of some special, unique thing they did. They stood out in their deep roots in the basics. Daniel prayed. David worshiped. Moses wanted to be closer and closer to God. Paul loved the church. Jesus spoke the truth. Continue reading

The Way of Love

One of the most powerful lessons of 2014 for me has to do with growing in my understanding of what it really means to love others.

When one looks at the biblical narrative, its quite amazing to see how God accomplishes change in the lives of those he desires to reach. He is not what we expect him to be. He does not merely snap his fingers, and presto! All that God does in his work with this fallen world, he does within the framework of a relationship; a process of reaching out and personally touching the hearts of those he seeks to change.

One of the Most Precious Things

There is very little that is more important in life than the giving and sharing of trust between those who are closest to us. There is very little that gives a true sense of belonging or acceptance. These are the places that we do not have to be anyone or anything but our real selves; where there is true transparency and freedom to say what we think and take life as it comes. Continue reading
